ACTIVE LEARNING
Passive learners sit back, relax, and expect the information to diffuse to their inner being. Active learners, however, are involved in every aspect of the learning process. Active learners manage to pull something of value from each day’s class, regardless of the teacher or topic. For this class, or any class for that matter, consider these suggestions:
1) Pay attention during instruction. Don’t chat, read, sleep, stare out windows, or work on other tasks.
2) Take good notes. Be accurate with note-taking, and write more than what is on the board.
3) Attend to verbal and written instructions.
4) Watch closely for dates of announced quizzes and tests, and honor assignment due dates.
5) Use a planner of some sort for recording important dates and events. Do not rely on memory.
6) Have the required materials for each class each day. This means having all of the current unit’s papers.
7) Turn in work that looks neat and sharp.
8) Stay organized. Be able to retrieve any needed piece of paper right away.
9) Study almost daily. Spend most of each day's time on new material, and a small amount of time on old stuff.
10) Be in class! Copying a classmate’s notes is no substitute for hearing the information first hand.
