non-compliance with assignment instructions
cheating (see below)

CHEATING (a.k.a. “collusion, malpractice, malfeasance”)

It is expected that all work submitted for evaluation is the work only of the individual named on the paper and is not copied either in part or whole from any source.

In light of this expectation, each of the following will be considered cheating:

  1. copying the classwork, homework, or lab work of another student
  2. being in possession of the classwork, homework, or lab work of another student
  3. using a computer-generated item made by another student
  4. giving information to/receiving information from another student on a test
  5. being in possession of unauthorized information during a test

It is also expected that no student will allow another student to copy their classwork, homework, lab work or test.
In light of this expectation, allowing such copying will also be considered cheating.

Determination that cheating has occurred:  The usual red flags are sentences that read like those of another, ideas that are the same or sequenced the same as those of another, and the “biggie”---identical wrong information, especially when it’s misspelled the same.

Consequences:    These can vary.  If minimal, a warning will be given.  Barring that, assume that there will be point penalties, either for part or all of the assignment.  Referrals will be written, parents will be contacted.  This is for all parties involved.

There exists a very fine line between discussing ideas with others and actually supplying information or having information supplied to you.  Collaboration with other students can assist with your understanding of the material, but always have the final product be of your own ideas, words, and design.  You never want a teacher to think “Where did I just read this?” while grading your work!

It is every student’s duty to report cheating of any kind!
